Description Zeev Roytman 2007-02-26 01:24:57 UTC
Hi!
I get the following error during converting the PostScript file to PDF format,
on Linux.
The GHost Version is 7.05.3
The error is: /invalidfont in --show--
Please, help to resolve.

Please upgrade your Ghostscrpt to the current version - 8.54.
Most likely, the problem is already fixed.
If not, we need a sample file to debug.

Hi,Alex!
We have Linux SuSE 8 SP3 operating system. When we tested the 8.54 version,
the "invalidfont" bug was fixed, but there was another problem - see the
attached files (PS and PDF).
In PS file we see all the information, but in PDF file there are some
characters - not all the information.
Thanks.
Comment 6 Zeev Roytman 2007-02-27 08:19:49 UTC
Additional information: we used ps2pdf default shell script in order to
convert from PS to PDF.
Waiting for your answer.
Comment 7 Alex Cherepanov 2007-02-27 13:14:59 UTC
The problem is confirmed in the current HEAD version.
The PostScript file has type 0 font woth a type 3 descendant font.
Apparently, Ghostscript cannot take this, but Distiller 5
generates correct PDF file.

Possibly a dup of 688639. Alex, what FMapType does this use ?
Comment 9 Zeev Roytman 2007-02-28 02:14:11 UTC
Some additional information:
The 8.51 version was tested and the PDF was created without characters -
tables and logos only.
The 8.51 version on RedHat is working OK on the same test case.
Comment 10 Alex Cherepanov 2007-02-28 07:27:29 UTC
Sample files in both bug reports use /FmapType 2.
Comment 11 leonardo 2007-02-28 10:54:15 UTC
Zeev, please do not change bug assingment. This problem is not Alex's domain.
Comment 12 SaGS 2007-03-11 16:10:00 UTC
I found this to caused by Type 0 fonts with Type 3 descendents (and I
don't see how a FMapType of 2 could make a difference, at least not
with these samples), a cause common to all the following:

Bug #688639 "pdfwrite: a composite font with a Type 3 descendent
                 and FMapType 2"
Bug #688760 "ps2pdf loses text in postscript figure when
                 converted to pdf"
Bug #688954 "Text disappears when converting some ps files
                 with ps2pdf"
Bug #689001 "Characters lost converting PS to PDF"
Bug #689041 "Japanese Font Display Problem is ps2pdf"
Bug #689105 "Invalid fonts error during converting from PS to PDF"

For a fix, please see bug #688639 comment #13. I suggest to close
this bug as a duplicate of bug #688639.
