Description Alexander Skwar 2006-11-11 12:05:15 UTC
I was using "ghostscript-gpl" v8.54 on Gentoo Linux and tried to convert the
postscript file, which I'll attach after this report, with ps2pdf ie. with
ps2pdf14 to a PDF file. The resulting PDF file doesn't look well at all - there
seem to be problems with the fonts and the graphic also isn't converted well
(there seem to be "JPEG artifacts", or something like this). I'll also attach
screenshots.

Source

This is the source postscript file. It has been generated by Opera 9.02 on
Linux, by printing something and redirecting output to a file.

Converted with ghostscript-gpl

This is the "Source" file converted to PDF with "Ghostscript GPL" v8.54 on
Gentoo Linux. I used ps2pdf, ie. ps2pdf14 to do this.

As can be seen, the file doesn't look well at all. Quite a lot of letters are
missing. And also the graphics doesn't look as nice as on the source.ps. I'll
attach a screenshot, showing what I see.

That's what I see, when I open the ghostscript-gpl converted PDF in Evince
0.6.1.

Converted with ghostscript-esp

I installed "Ghostscript ESP" "ESP Ghostscript 8.15.3 (2006-08-25)" and
converted the source.ps to PDF. It looks a bit better, but still not as well as
the original PS.

- The graphics is still "blurred".
- The letters aren't as "nice". That's especially visible with the text "Grosse
Karte". On this PDF, the "G" almost touches the line. That's not so in the PS.

Screenshot follows.

Evince showing Source.ps

When I open the Source.ps in Evince, I see this. All looks quite pretty.

I've opened a new bug addressing the missing characters when the PostScript file is converted to PDF. I'll
look into the JPEG quality issues and open a separate bug or attach an additional comment to this bug.
