The computational time to render PDFs with transparency needs improvement. 
Several performance problems are summarized in an attached report.  The problems
are not restricted to any particular operating system.

pdf_trans_performance.xls

The spreadsheet is referenced in the PDF report.  It contains timings for
several PDF files that contain transparency and compares to rendering the files
with transparency disabled.  The referenced files are good choices for testing
as the performance problems are resolved.

Closing this as Robin has made some significant speed-ups in transparency with his templates and the SSE code is giving good acceleration.
