In the sample PostScript file, characters are spaced normally when viewed with gs. When distilled to PDF with gs 8.63, blank space appears after each apostrophe character. This happens on both Windows XP and RedHat Linux. Same PS file distilled with gs 8.50 has correct spacing.

Confirmed that it also happens with gshead (r9215). Looking for the revision which broke this now.
Behavior changed in r8235: r8235 | ken | 2007-09-10 01:31:42 -0700 (Mon, 10 Sep 2007) | 58 lines Update pdfwrite to handle type 0 fonts with type 1 or type 2 descendant fonts.
The call to pdf_adjust_first_last_char always used a length of 1, instead of the string length, which meant only the first member of the string was used. Fixed in revision 9223 with this patch: http://ghostscript.com/pipermail/gs-cvs/2008-November/008802.html
