ps2pdf works fine on my system which is rather similiar 
with both 8.54 and 8.15.2.

My 8.15.2 is as shipped by redhat fc5, and my 8.54 has these fixes on:

You could tried your as-shipped gs, or one of the above patches.

I can reproduce on my x86_64 linux system with 8.54 and the pdfwrite device. It
completes without error for me with gs HEAD, so it looks like this has been fixed.

I've reopened this bug and assigned it to Ralph as per the earlier support meeting discussion.

re-run with patched and unpatched 64-bit 8.54, unpatched binary segfaults 
and patched one doesn't. So it looks like it is a duplicate of one of

This is a duplicate of the bug 688721, which is fixed since revision 6818.

This patch and most of other patches mentioned by Hin-Tak Leung should be
applied to v. 8.54 if it is used on a 64-bit platform.
