With the attached test file, Ghostscript fails with a /rangecheck in readstring
error. I've narrowed it down to this line in gs_ttf.ps (line 699 in current
svn), when processing the font in 17 0 obj:

  /tables f offsets 4 getu16 16 mul string readstring pop def

Work for me on my patched version.
Probably, the font is mis-identified.

The sample file has /FontFile2 key (normally TrueType) pointing to
a PFB font. This is a duplicate of the bug 688465 .
