All versions of GS from 6.01 to 7.01 don't apply or
include the transfer functions from setcolortransfer.
This is significant for Level 1 PS files generated by
Windows driver that simulates indexed color space with
transfer functions.

I executed ps2pdf COWGIFword.ps t.pdf with the current CVS
tree (as of 7/2/01), and the resulting image appeared to be
correct. If it still fails for you with the current code,
please provide the command line, platform, and other
relevant information, or else provide another test file that
still fails. TIA.

Apparently a workaround was implemented on 5/8/2001
(lib/gs_ll3.ps [1.9]) by including an IdiomSet that rewrites
certain procedures generated by the Win2K driver. This was a
bad fix: it requires LanguageLevel 3 capability with
IdiomRecognition enabled, and it doesn't address the real
problem. We will remove this IdiomSet as soon as we
understand how to fix the problem properly.

We have removed the workaround, implemented and tested a
proper fix, and checked the fix into the CVS tree.
