Description Jay M 2011-08-18 10:54:42 UTC
After upgrading to latest Ghostscript (9.0.4) packages the drivers I have confirmation on two printers, the Canon MX860 and Epson NX510, will only print all black pages. Downgrading to 9.02 and printing occurs normally. Foomatic drivers also work with Ghostscript 9.0.4, however these are not ideal drivers. Both printers running Arch Linux 64bit distribution, package maintainer is confident this is an upstream issue here.

My apologies I am not a developer, but hopefully this helps. Reference bug report FS#25506 @ https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/25506.

Without a Ghostscript command line and an example file, we're not going to be able to help. In fact, it's possible no one on the team will have access to the printers in question, which will probably make it rather difficult to assess the problem and a potential fix.

Please work with the package maintainer to supply us with the required information.

You may also find the information here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems

in finding out the information we need.

Finding the responsible revision would earn a partial bounty.
Comment 3 Jay M 2011-08-18 23:07:10 UTC
There are no error messages in the logs. I tried doing the "capture" method suggested by the Ubuntu troubleshooting method and it appears what is being sent to the printer is in fact the correct image (not a mostly black image with some lines on it). However, upon resuming the job it prints mostly black with some color noise lines.

It appears the problem with the entire NX inkjet series of Epson printers as well- so maybe a developer may have access to one in this series?

This is about all I can offer at the moment, I will try to get the Epson ArchLinux users to provide more details if possible. I'm very comfortable in command line, so if anyone can provide commands I am more than happy to report back output / findings.

i've never used ghostscript on it's own or started it from a command line, but let me know what logs or other info would be needed and i will make sure to get it.

Guess this is a duplicate of http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691922
Comment 6 Chris Liddell (chrisl) 2011-08-22 07:26:36 UTC
It may be a duplicate of the bug, if so, you should pick up:
http://git.ghostscript.com/?p=ghostpdl.git;a=commit;h=781b73

rather than the fix originally mentioned in that bug.

FWIW, you can just grab the latest cups/gdevcups.c from our git repos, and it will drop right in to the 9.04 sources - the fix was only in gdevcups.c and did not rely on changes elsewhere.

If someone with an affected printer could try it, we'd be very grateful.
