We need to add a target in the build system to create the "release" distribution archive(s) for Linux/Unix and related systems.

Probably needs a matching "distclean" target, and also means removing the "configure" call from the autogen.sh (and update to the cluster scripts to suit).


I've CC'ed Till, in case he has any suggestions, hints preferences etc.
