Till Kamppeter has sent me a link to the updated hl1250 driver:

The driver should work fine with the current API of GPL Ghostscript 8.15. 
Please consider adding it into the next release. 
I'm the author of this driver, but I'm not really maintaining it anymore. 
I'd like to ask the community to pick it up where I left off - thanks. 
 
As I understand, it was removed from AFPL Ghostscript because of some licensing 
issues which I don't fully understand (it is public domain, you can do anything 
you want with it).  Shouldn't be a problem for GPL Ghostscript in any case...

My guess is that there was no information in the file that stated it was in the
public domain, which left us wondering who to contact and what license it was
under.  Another reason it might have been removed is that none of us were unsure
of it's current status and it didn't look like it was being maintained.

Ralph makes these decisions for the GPL version, so I'll assign this to him.
