Description David Fisher 2009-07-25 12:12:31 UTC
Using 8.63 installed on Win2003 Server running Citrix/Terminal Server
Printer driver is Custom PDF Writer from ACROSOFTWARE.
Problem in general when printing to the PDF printer (in our case called
DATPDF), but for example using Word2003 with a Doc containing normal fonts
like Arial and Times New Roman and some bitmap graphics. When we print to PDF
printer it takes 25-35 seconds to complete to the point that we see the
SAVEAS dialog vs several seconds under a regular PC install (not Citrix).
We used FILEMON from sysinternals.com and captured file opens/closes etc.
We see a huge number of attempts to open
S:\WINDOWS\system32\IdiomSet\
S:\Program Files\GPLGS\IdiomSet\
S:\Program Files\Resource\IdiomSet\
etc.
Since these folders didn't exist it causes many attempts looking through every
folder in the search path, or 7 or 8 folders each time. This is repeated many
many times. We tried creating empty folders in those locations but still a
huge amount of time is burned looking in those folders. How to suppress this
useless searching for Idiomset which burns up a lot of time?

I can provide a capture of the file traces if you need it.

CutePDF (Acro Software) is not a supported Artifex customer.

Please refer any problems or questions to them:
http://www.cutepdf.com/Support/

Note that there web site seems pretty lame -- they are still telling people to
download 8.15 GPL Ghostscript, but the link (to SourceForge) has 8.64.

Note that Artifex Software considers the use of GPL Ghostscript in such a
fashion with a non-GPL product to be a violation of the GPL since they do not
provide their product under GPL with full sources.
