I have a document (pls see attached) which is rendered with blank spots instead 
of symbols for Thai font. Adobe Reader shows the document correctly. I checked 
with gs 8.64 and the lated revision build

I confirm that the problem exists in the current HEAD revision.
Probably, the bug is in interpretation of TTF encoding.

Chucking this one at Chris for now, I can see the problem but have not investigated further

This was in that grey area of Truetype handling that isn't really clearly documented.

I *think* the fix is this (it seems to solve the problem, and doesn't break anything else):
