Description Sahaya Darcius 2006-07-31 00:33:51 UTC
I知 Working as a Linux Device driver developer in WeP Peripherals Pvt Ltd
(Leading DMP Manufacturers, Mysore, India.)
We would like to include our Linux printer driver for WeP dot matrix Printers.
as a default with every new release of the Ghostscript.
Please let me know the procedures and contacts which I should follow.
Kindly guide us. I知 eagerly waiting for your response

We strongly discourage adding new printer drivers to Ghostscript; it adds to the
code size and reduces modularity. I'd strongly suggest you write your driver as
a standalone executable which can talk to Ghostscript and/or the print spooler
over IJS, pnm over a pipe, CUPS raster, OpenVector printing interface, or (best)
some combination of all three. Then you can distribute it yourselves, making
updates without being tied to our release schedule.

That said, if you really want to distribute your driver with Ghostscript we will
consider it. We need two things: first, you must commit to maintaining the code
within Ghostscript, and second you will need to assign copyright to artofcode LLC.

There is apparently some sort of linux drivers for downloading,
but many links on the site don't seem to work.

http://www.wepindia.com/downloads/downloads_framepage.asp

(just kind of interested in what kind of driver it is).

Hai,
Nice to see your reply. But I need some more clarification on this.
As you mentioned in you're reply saying that "Maintaining the code within the
Ghostscript".
It means that whether we have to maintain our driver code in the "Ghostscript"
or something different, which you are expecting from us. Please clear me to
move forward.

Thanks & Regards,
Sahaya Darcius.P
Comment 5 Ralph Giles 2006-08-01 11:20:07 UTC
Our concern is that we've had a number of drivers contributed to Ghostscript in
the past which the authors no longer maintain, which adds a maintenance burden
for us (or such drivers must be dropped).

So I was asking for some assurance that your organization would continue to
maintain the drivers and keep them up to date as you release new products and as
the Ghostscript code itself evolves.

Nice to see your reply. We promised you that we would continue to maintain our
drivers in the Ghostscript.

And i need some more information regarding to submit our driver code,

Let me know the procedure to submit our driver code.
and what are the files should we submit?

Please clear me to move forward.

Thanks & Regards,

Just attach your current driver code or what incomplete code you have
to the bug, or put it up on (a temporary part of) your web site,
and things can get moving.

Grabbing a Ralph's bugs.
Comment 11 Hin-Tak Leung 2010-05-05 03:45:54 UTC
Closing bug due to lack of response from reporter. There are some Linux PPDs for download from:
http://www.wepindia.com/Downloads/DownloadDrivers.aspx
so this bug is likely obsolete in any case.

Re-open only if the reporter can point to a download location or attach the source.
