Description Werner Lemberg 2011-02-06 18:27:59 UTC
In version 9.00, there exists a directory

  Resource/Font

which contains the standard URW Type 1 fonts with long names. However, a
directory

  Resource/AFM

which holds the corresponding AFM files is missing. Why?

While I agree that gs itself doesn't need AFM files, they are nevertheless an intergral part of the Type 1 fonts IMHO.

I strongly suggest to add the AFM files again.

We don't want to distribute files that are not needed for running Ghostscript.
The URW fonts are a separate distribution (with different file names) and
these do have .afm files in case applications use them.

I really don't think applications use, or trust, AFM files anymore since so
many fonts don't have them and the move is to TT and OpenType fonts.
