Description Marcos H. Woehrmann 2010-05-13 17:24:41 UTC
The customer requests that we had support for the HD Photo codec within XPS files.

Details:

Microsoft has patents on the HD Photo technology <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JPEG_XR> but has said they will make the technology available under the Open Specification Promise <http://www.microsoft.com/interop/osp/default.mspx>, however as of now they have not done so. Microsoft does make a codec available in source form <http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=285eeffd-d86c-48c3-ab93-3abd5ee7f1ce> that can be distributed, but not as part of open source software.

Therefore to allow our customers to read HD Photos within XPS files we should modify xps/xpshdp.c to use the Microsoft codec which our customers can then download and install separately (I believe we've done something similar in the past, when decryption source code had to be hosted outside the US).
