Bug 688483

Summary: GSView 4.xx invoked system menus are garbled on a DBCS system
Product: Artifex GSview Reporter: zircon
Component: GeneralAssignee: Russell Lang <gsview>
Status: RESOLVED WONTFIX
Severity: normal
Priority: P4
Version: unspecified
Hardware: PC
OS: OS/2
Customer: Word Size: ---

Description zircon 2006-01-08 23:22:34 UTC
The system menus (e.g. file open) called up by GSView 4.7 on DBCS(Double-Byte
Character Set, Japanese) OS/2 display DBCS character pairs as individual SBCS
(Single-Byte Character Set) characters, making the text illegible. This becomes
a major obstacle e.g. when trying to find a file name which is written using
DBCS characters.

This bug is also evident in input fields. Typing DBCS text into them is not
possible, and any DBCS text pasted into them is also displayed as SBCS.

The fact that the system menus (which are obviously DBCS enabled on a DBCS
system) suggests that the program is somehow invoked in a non-DBCS session.

This bug is also evident in GSView 4.3. However, older versions (e.g. 3.6)
display Japanese system menus correctly, and allow DBCS input.

The environment is Japanese OS/2 v4.52.

If a testing environment is required, please contact me directly.

I am no longer doing any active development of the OS/2 version of GSview. If
you find a fix, I will include it in the next release of GSview. However I will
not spend any time looking for a fix.
